The last 36 hours have been shocking for us as a family.
Three unrelated incidents of people in ministry dealing with personal crisis of one kind or another has really left us feeling deeply, deeply saddened for them, not least of all because we have known and loved them so long.
How do we even begin to deal with these things? And how many more times are we going to have to?
And yet - to despair, or to bury our heads is not the answer. Nor is to use singing as purely escapism.
All of us know the verse in Colossians 3 where Paul says to "let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts", and the psalms themselves speak to the Glory of God amidst all the mess of life.
We live in a generation facing some unique challenges to living the Christian life that our parents' generation simply did not experience to anywhere near the same degree, and we cannot play around. Let's ensure every part of our personal, family and church worship is deep and rich and transparent...
Let's pray that the conference will be a great place to go home from carrying deep songs, as well as deep worship patterns for our lives, families and congregations that reach into every part of life and build strong roots and healthy, vibrant believers.
Let's pray it inspires new ones, too!
